Time Lapse Photography using the Sony A7RIII

There are tons of great must-have features on new Sony A7RIII however, I am sorely missing two of my favourites - panorama mode as well as the time lapse function using the PlayMemories Camera Apps.

For the latter I have been able to overcome this omission by using a combination of the three modes as outlined below.
  • Using the S&Q function.  So Sony decided to remove the Panorama mode on the top selection dial with the Slow & Quick setting.  The way I go about using this new mode for time lapse is to set the Frame Rate to 1 frame per second.
To access this menu, go to the Camera Tab#2 (Movie1) and scroll down to the S&Q Setting.

  • Use a Intervalometer.  These can be gotten from AliExpress forabout S$25.  The only disadvantage is that you have to lug around the device wherever you go.

  • Finally, a third more tedious method is to tether the camera to your laptop or PC via the USB-C cable and run the free Imaging Edge software from Sony and set it on Review Mode.
